Oliver Eugene Loftsgard

Oliver Eugene Loftsgard, age 94 of Fargo, North Dakota and formerly of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Elim Nursing Home of Fargo.

Oliver Eugene Loftsgard was born January 19, 1922 in rural Dundee Township,Walsh County, ND the son of the late Theodore and Theodora (Jore) Loftsgard. He attended rural schools and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River, ND in 1940. Eugene was united in marriage to Pearl Larson on October 19, 1946 in Park River, ND. They were married for 67 years up to her death in 2013.

Eugene ran the family farm starting at an early age-during his father’s illness beginning in the mid 1930’s. He also managed the Dundee Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years.

Eugene was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday School for over 13 years, teaching every one of his children. He was a member of the Board of Directors at Polar Communications from 1970-1985. He served on the Park River Park Board for several years, the Lutheran Brotherhood (Thrivent) branch of charitable giving, the Park River Bible Camp Governing Board, First United Bank & First United Insurance Board of Directors. He loved to travel, cherished his family and relished the opportunity to tell a story.

Eugene is survived by his children: Stuart Loftsgard, Park River, ND; Clarke (Kathy) Loftsgard, Grand Forks, ND; Julie Nordstrom, Cedar Falls, IA; Lisa (Larry) Homuth, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren: Tracy (Wayne) Laaveg, Justin (Stacey) Loftsgard, Claye (Candee) Loftsgard, Karah Hanson, Andrew (Brooke) Nordstrom, Kirsten (Ben) Arnold, Amy (Peter) Salmon, Bryn (Jennifer) Homuth, Cale (Megan) Homuth, 11 great grandchildren and siblings: Harvey (Grace) Loftsgard, Ruth (Gene) Larson and Eleanore Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Pearl, his brother, Laurel Loftsgard and son-in-law, Paul Nordstrom.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND.
