Elsie Lewis Elsie Lewis

Elsie M. Lewis, age 92 of Grafton, ND died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center of Larimore, ND. Elsie M. Lorenzen was born October 4, 1915 in Montevideo, MN the daughter of the late Henry and Ivy May (Harbeck) Lorenzen. She attended rural school near St. Thomas, ND and graduated from St. Thomas High School. Elsie was united in marriage to Horace C. Lewis on October 10, 1935 in Drayton, ND. The couple lived in Gilby, ND and Drayton, ND. In the spring of 1957 they moved to Hoople, ND where they lived until 1968 when they moved to Fordville, ND. While in Fordville, Elsie worked as the assistant cook at the Fordville Public School. In 1980 the couple moved to Park River, ND. Horace died August 8, 1999. In 2004 Elsie moved to Grafton where she lived until May 23, 2008 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND.

She is survived by 14 children: Clayton and Robert Lewis, Hoople, ND; Dean (Jackie) Lewis and Donald  Lewis, both of Grafton, ND; Michael (Bonnie) Lewis, Cavalier, ND; Gerald Lewis, Grand Forks, ND; Anna Mae (Roy) Spiekermeier, Sheldon, ND; Donna Nordling, Hallock, MN; Marie (Glenn) Fontaine, Rosanna (Paul) Kotaska and Janice Lewis, all of Grand Forks, ND; Shirley (Richard) Mitchell, Crystal, ND; Rebecca Lewis, Millinocket, MA; Vonda (Gene) Felton, Fargo, ND; 27 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Lucille Meece, Cavalier, ND.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charles, three grandchildren and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Drayton United Methodist Church, Drayton, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Drayton City Cemetery.
