Gena Rutherford Gena Rutherford, age 97 of Grafton passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Gena Evanson was born November 30, 1910 in Sheldon, ND the daughter of the late Evan and Gertie (Bjugstad) Evanson. She grew up and attended schools there. Following her education she worked as a caregiver at the North Dakota Soldiers Home in Lisbon, ND. Gena was united in marriage to Russell P. Rutherford on January 10, 1930 in Lisbon, ND. The couple moved to the Grafton area where they farmed near Nash. Russell died May 2, 1953. In 1965 she started working as a nurse’s aide at the Grafton Deaconess Hospital. She worked for over ten years and continued to live on the family farm until her death. Gena is survived by her daughters: Vernice Rutherford; Grand Forks, ND; Beverly (Robert) McFetridge; Albuquerque, NM; Audrey (Jim) Gauderman; Grafton, ND; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and brother Alvin (Catherine) Evanson; Sheldon, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, three brothers and two grandsons. Funeral services will be Monday, March 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM and Monday for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery.
