Marvin G. Sandvig, age 87 of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center of Larimore, ND. Marvin G. Sandvig was born June 25, 1920 in Fairdale, ND the son of the late Olvin and Clara (Monson) Sandvig. He attended schools Park River, ND and Grand Forks, ND. Marvin served in the United States Army from December of 1941 to September of 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his discharge he moved to the Grafton area where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Helen Rundhaug on December 2, 1947 in Edinburg, ND. The couple lived and farmed in the Grafton area. Helen died December 9, 1979. He later worked for the Hove Farms near Grafton, retiring in 1995. He moved to Grand Forks in 2000 and moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore in November of 2007.
He was a member of the South Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the Grafton VFW Post #9367.
Marvin is survived by his children: Beverly (Les) Helgason and Ronald Sandvig, both of Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; siblings: Orlie (Shirley) Sandvig, Grafton, ND; Charlotte Tweten, Grand Forks, ND; Rosella (Wally) Murphy, Puyallup, WA; Ruth (Alan) Insko, Pilot Rock, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Robert , grandson Shane and sister Delores Jones.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the South Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Grafton. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton VFW Post #9367. Interment will be at the South Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
