Irwin Flaten

October 1, 1926 - May 17, 2012

Irwin “Bud” Flaten, age 85 of Park River, ND passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.

Irwin Flaten was born October 1, 1926 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Amos G. and Ida (Lien) Flaten. He attended rural school at the Bruce School and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. In 1948 he attended the Coin Electrical School in Chicago, IL. He then attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. In 1950 he moved to Ecuador and lived there for a short time. In 1960 he moved to Brazil where he was a missionary for Go Ye Fellowship Missions and lived there for 26 years. He was united in marriage to Evelyn “Evie” Zielke on June 28, 1964 in Clovis, Ca. The couple returned to Park River in 1986 and lived on the family farm until moving into Park River. Evie passed away Aug. 28, 2008 and he moved to the Good Samaritan Center on June 10, 2009.

Irwin was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Park River

He is survived by his siblings: Amos L. (Darlene) Flaten, Park River, ND; Andy Flaten, Park River, ND; Judy Engelmann, Grand Forks, ND. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Duane and Marvin and twin sister Erna Cole.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Bethel Baptist Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hoople, ND.
