Biography

Mary E. Brubakken, age 68 of Hoople, ND went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2012 after a courageous battle against cancer, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mary E. Rodgers was born April 10, 1944 in Portland, OR the daughter of the late Walter J. and Sophie (Stevenson) Rodgers. She graduated from Grafton High School. Following her education she worked at Stan’s Café in Grafton. She married Kenneth Anderson in 1964. She later managed the American Legion in Hoople, ND. Mary was united in marriage to Richard Brubakken in 1978 in Hoople where the couple made their home. She worked as a RCT at the Grafton Developmental Center from 1985-2010 when she retired.

Mary was a member of the First Lutheran Church and FLCW of Hoople and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed baking, cooking and working in her yard. She was known for her world famous buns which she provided for many graduations and weddings. She loved spending time with family and friends and was especially proud of her grandchildren. Mary was a very giving person and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Richard of Hoople, ND; children: Rodney (Sue) Anderson, Gary, MN; Kathy (Loren) Langerud, Harwood, ND; Lisa (Nathan) Borrud, Hoople, ND; Richie Brubakken, Hoople, ND; six grandchildren: Halie, Justin, Bryce, Adam, Isaac, and Hannah, siblings: William Rodgers, Steven Rodgers, Wally (Sue) Rodgers, Anne Tetrault, Alice Gullickson, Sherry Rodgers and John Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church of Hoople. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hoople City Cemetery.
