Betty Flaten, 76, Park River, ND, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Betty Lindell was born March 25, 1935, in Grafton, ND to Hamilton and Selma (Johnson) Lindell. Betty attended rural schools and Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. She married Ander Flaten in East Grand Forks, MN, on December 20, 1952.
Betty was a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing this gift with her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at Lake of the Woods. She also enjoyed flower gardening, reading, ceramics and was an avid quilter.
Survivors include her loving husband, Andy of Park River, ND; three children: Shane (Dwight) Larson, Park River, ND; Perry (Phyllis) Flaten, Moorhead, MN; and Gretchen (Jon) Ramsey, Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren: Shannon (Jon) Markusen, Park River, ND; Joshua Larson, Jacob Larson, Nichole Flaten and Derek Flaten, all of Grand Forks, ND; Nicholas Ramsey, Atlanta, GA; and Megan Ramsey, Sioux Falls, SD; four great grandchildren: Josie, Elias, Sophia and Emma Markusen, Park River, ND; brothers: Charles (Shirley) Lindell, Mesa, AZ; Neil (Kay) Lindell, Grand Forks, ND; Allan (Orla) Lindell, Minot, ND; and sisters: Joyce (Lloyd) Johnson, Grafton, ND; and Linda (Jack) Gillespie, Park River, ND. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Art Bode; son, Greg Flaten and sister and brother-in-law; Carol and Gib Wang.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Park River, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Hoople, ND.
